Karen talks Becket….

amongst others!

A few years ago, one Saturday afternoon I watched the film Becket on TV. It stars Richard Burton and Peter O’Toole. A very enjoyable film and IMDb describe it thus:

“An English king comes to terms with his affection for his close friend and confidant, who finds his true honor by observing God’s divine will rather than the king’s”

My thoughts turned to a remake after, with of course, Joaquin taking the original Burton role. Far fetched? I don’t think so! Not really, given Joaquin’s pedigree.  Anyway, imagine my delight at reading this the other day from Total Film:

cademy Award-winner William Monahan is to write and direct a new adaptation of the French play Becket or The Honour of God. Monahan will be working with the original script from 1959, rather than creating a remake of the 1964 film starring Peter O’Toole and Richard Burton”

OK so it’s not a remake but uncanny or what?!! Now all we need is for the Film makers to reach out to the best man for the job…..Step forward Mr Phoenix!
Total Film

Now speaking of roles being offered…..how about this next one?
Paul Viragh, the writer of the recent Ian Dury film, Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll, has been asked to write the script for the new Joe Strummer Biopic, nicely titled, Joe Public.
Now then…. could Joaquin be offered the role as Joe? Maybe? Possibly? Again, film makers, reach out and find him….PLEASE!
